HELPFUL HINTS
(for fiber producers)
This will ensure that you will receive back the highest quality of products from our mill, quality in - quality out.

Once your animal has been sheared spend the time to skirt the fiber.  Spread out the fiber on something like an old screen door, or a skirting board to pick out the items you don't want to see in your finished product, weeds, hay, stickers, dung, etc.  Be sure to get those second cuts, they will make a great difference in the quality of your roving or yarn.

If you have a blower and have your fiber covered it would help to blow through it to remove any excess dirt (expecially alpaca and llama) Even a hair dryer (cold setting if you have it) can help.

You have the option to wash the fiber yourself, but we do reserve the right to re-wash if we feel it is necessary for the processing.

Separate and bag each fleece, mark the bags clearly for easy identification.

Helpful identification: (click here for a printable form)

Farm Name
Phone number
Animal Name
Blanket?  Neck & legs?
Weight

Note:  We weigh and tag each bag that is sent to us also for our inventory records but it is very helpful to have your identification also.

Even though most fiber can be hand-spun, some fiber is too brittle and weak to go through the milling process.  If there is some fiber that cannot be processed we will contact you and let you know the condition of each fleece before we begin the processing.

You have the option of having the un-processable fiber returned to you, at your expense.
